The use of a Web has giving me an fund raising idea to use with the 200 plus affiliates to the state fed with more than 200 members. Appreciate learning more about the Van Ardale memorial. idea
I think this web-site is a fantastic idea and a nice tibute to Harry Van Arsdale. I think Harry has done more for women in construction than anyone else, past or present. He was a remarkable man and I feel honored to have known him.
Thank you for all your hardwork and integrity. We will do our best to keep your dedication alive!
I was brought up in the New York City area and did not become an Ibew member until I came to California. As a youngster both my father and my grandfather talked alot about Harry in glowing terms "He was the most well respected union leader in the New York city area", I was told this many times. Glad to see this Tribute to a great man in the IBEW's history.
Absolutely fantastic! Mr. Van Arsdale Jr. was more than a great man... He was a role model in the past who continues to stand tall and proud as the example of what we should all strive to be as we struggle into the future. It is difficult to honor a man with such outstanding achievements in a manner that can express the overwhelming gratitude and respect he so very much deserves from our IBEW membership, and the Union Movement as a whole.
I tip my hat to the creators of this site for the remarkeable job done on a tribute to a person who was, in our hearts and minds, more than a man.

I have had the honor of meeting Harry Van Arsdale Jr. and hearing his inspiring speeches many times during my years as a member of Local Union # 3 NYC. Thanks to his ability to conceive new ideas and acheive them , is why myself and my family live the good life that we have today. From my apprentice days living in Electchester to the home and job I have today , all revolve around the nucleus that is Harry van Arsdale Jr. It is nice to see him remebered in this modernistic manner, a medium I am certain he would have been using to continue the advancement of the worker had it existed in his day.
This is what the internet was meant for!
I THINK THE WEB PAGE IS A GREAT IDEA .

Great job.
Excellent work John. The memory of Harry on the internet is in capable hands.
Harry Van Arsdale Jr., was one of the giants of the American Labor movement. All of his life, he fought to ensure that working people would enjoy the benefits that we now take for granted: good pay, decent working conditions, and a worry-free retirement. His vision of attractive, affordable housing created Electchester, where thousands of working men and women (myself included) were able to raise their families in a wonderful community. We will always treasure the memory of Harry Van Arsdale Jr.
A very interesting site. I stumbled upon it quite by accident. I was wondering when the links would be up and running, and if you were going to use some things for the Principal for a day ceremony we had recently at our school.
As a member of Local Union #3 I'm proud that this site is up and running. The ideals that Harry lived and worked so hard for are wishes that all WORKING CLASS people should have.To work together to provide a decent living for their families, with decent health care and a wage that will allow them to LIVE and not just SURVIVE.
I Never had a chance to meet Harry, but because of him I have been given a proud and promising future. I take each day of work with pride and in every action remember of those such as Harry that made what we have today possible. This is quite a remarkable website and am very proud to be a member of Local Union #3

Thank you to those of you who put this site together. I believe that it is a real tribute to Mr. Van Arsdale. I am a 3rd year apprentice in the finest local in the world. In the short years that I have in the business, I have heard many stories from the senior members of the local, and this is a great way that I could take time for myself to learn about his life and his dedication to the members of Local Union #3- Thank You
A FITTING TRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST LABOR LEADER OF OUR TIME,THANK YOU BROTHER VANARSDALE FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK. GOD BLESS YOU HARRY.
A fine tribute to a truly remarkable and unique man. I can recall, as a young man working in NYC,the very first time I heard Harry speak at a rally. The memory is so vivid, so many years later, and the hope Harry inspired in me then is with me still.

It gives me immense pleasure to witness this great "tribute," seeing a web page entering a new millenium and carrying on this great man's legacy. Having had the opportunity to work for him in many of organized labor's endeavors, I am greatly appreciative of Harry's accomplishments and most certainly respected his untireless personality. He was the best...unequaled in my lifetime...loved him...miss having him around...In my thoughts often.
I think that its great that the history of local 3 can be seen on the internet. It shows what a great man Harry was and the direction that he brought the labor movement. Thank you.
HARRY VAN ARSDALE JR WAS A GREAT MAN. WHY? HIS APPEARANCE ELECTRIFY THE AIR THAT SURROUNDED HIM. HIS STYLE AND THE WORK HE DID INSPIRED US ALL. A TRUE ONE OF A KIND LEADER IN OUR TIME.
Thanks to a great man who had changed my life for better. A true legendary leader who will live forever in our hearts.
the greatest labor leader of all time.....
Better check on that 1959 date for the purchase of Bayberry Land. I think it was much earlier
I never had the pleasure of meeting the man, but if I had, I'm sure all the wonderful things I've heard about him are true. It's an honor to be working in an industry that had a leader like Harry.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for the memory of Mr. Van Arsdale, a very great man, a man who had such foresight and thought and compassion regarding the working class people of America. He stood up, head and shoulder above the crowd, fighting and rallying for what he thought was right and just and fair for the men and women who worked so hard in their field. I saw Mr. Van Arsdale once briefly on a visit to Bayberry and he was not too stuck-up to wave to me and gave me that great big smile. This was just a couple of years before his passing, and I am now glad to say, at least, I did see him once! My husband retires in a year's time with, what we think, will be a good pension, and which will make our remaining years comfortable ones.
After moving from the Island of Jamaica, living in England and moving to America in the 60's, I can now say thank God for America, and thank God for Mr. Harry Van Arsdale.
Thank you Mr Van Arsdale.
I am truly proud to be a Local 3 Member!
That's all I got to say or, better yet, that's all there is to say.
alone we are nothing,TOGETHER we are LOCAL UNION #3
Ideas are a dime a dozen.People who put them into action are priceless.Harry Van Arsdale was one of these people. He was a man ahead of his time.
As a 30 year member of local #3 and an instructor at the apprentice school, it was Harry van Arsdale that inspired myself to give back to loacl #3 in a way I could contribute the most to my union ! That way, has been to be an instructor at the school since 1984, teaching our apprentices and to teaching the NICET fire alarm course. Mr Van Arsdale always stressed the importance of education and I am proud that I am continuing what he held important to Local#3, the education of its members.
A really neat website and is certainly fitting for a real fine man. I well remeber conversations with Harry at a couple of conventions (Kansas City and Atlantic City) and he always had some real insight to pass along to us younger fellows, (at the time). His efforts and accomplishments for working men and women will certainly be remebered for generations.
I just finished the bio. on Harry. I knew him and respected his integrity and I am commited to follow the examples he has left me. If it wasn't for him, I often wonder where I would be today.
H.B.C.
My privilege knowing him as a great labor leader, humanitarian and mentor. From my personal recollections as a young boy on picket lines with my dad as well as attending union functions throughout my career, he always displayed great vision, values and integrity. This is a wonderful tribute and legacy for the millenium.

After losing my wife to brain cancer in 1984, Mr. Van arsdale sent me a hand written letter telling me how sorry he was for my loss. It just blew me away, that a man as powerful as Harry would take the time for a average journeyman like me. The day he passed away I cried like a baby, this world lost a very special person, that comes along once in a lifetime. I was glad it was in mine. thank you
I RETIRED IN 1996 AND MOVED OUT WEST TO LAS VEGAS. I AM THRILLED THAT MY LOCAL HAS A WEB SITE THAT CAN KEEP ME INFORMED AS TO THE LOCALS DOINGS. REGARDS TO ALL ON THE FOURTH FLOOR AT JIB OFFICES. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

I would like to thank Harry Van Arsdale for his foresight, and dedication to the well being and rights of workers in this country. Thank you.

As a student of Industrial Labor Relations and a third generation member of local # 3, I am proud to see the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. web site. Harry would be pleased of the accomplishments and advancements the membership has achieved since his unfortunate passing. "People who work with their hands and their brains produce the wealth of this nation. Their aims and aspirations are to make a better life for thhemselves and their children. That's what it's all about" If we as an industry continue to engage in these particular ideals, local # 3; and all of organized labor, will continue to strive to unimaginable levels of greatness throughout the twenty-first century and beyond.
Fraternally,
Matthew Giuliano III MyWay164@aol.com

I had the good foutune to hear Harry speak on many occasions.I often wonder if my retirement would be as secure if Harry Van Arsdale Jr.would not have happened on the scene. All the man had to do was walk on to the podium, and you either heard applause or silence, the respect was wonderful. He was a great man, ahead of his time. This web site is right on time. Keep up the good work.
I think that this project is a long time needed and I am looking foward to looking through it.
Without Harry VanArsdale Jr.'s foresight and imagination, Local #3 would just be another union and not the one in the forefront of the labor movement of the world. We've been truly blessed.
Thank You Brother Harry....
My dad said Harry gave the working man the most important thing.Human dignity.
